She was born on May 26th, 1951.she grew up in the heart of California, Los Angeles. Sally had studied English and physics at Stanford University and had gotten a bachelors degree and majored in both subjects,1973. She continued to study physics and then later got her masters degree, And after she got her PHD. Sally Ride was the first woman to land on the moon. She had beat over 1,000 others to be in the nasa program, she then went on to the harsh training you need to complete. She was on the challenger shuttle mission that began June 18th, 1983. On that mission she was the mission specialist she deployed satellites and worked on other projects, Her date of return was June 24th. In October later that year she was yet again another mission specialist. She was later scheduled for a third trip that didn't happen because of a tragic challenger accident. After the accident she then served as presidential commission that investigated the space shuttle explosion. After NASA she became the director of the California space insitute and UCLA. In 2001 she started her own company to create educational programs, she served as President and CEO. For her contributions she had received many honors and was inducted into the National Women's Hall of fame. On July 23rd, 2012, she died at the age of 61 due to cancer.
